Dr. Dumbacher Speaks to City of Orlando Employees on Women’s Health

On October 30, 2012, Dr. Dumbacher joined 200 City of Orlando female employees for a health fair at Leu Gardens. As these were mostly full-time working women, Dr. Dumbacher educated the group on easy ways to eat healthy and the importance of keeping good sleep habits to maintain your health overall.

I will never forget the day my medical school professor emphatically shoved two fingers into his nostrils to illustrate how the “brain-eating” amoeba, Naegleria fowleri, enters the human brain. The tiny amoeba burrows up the nose of innocent victims who are swimming or diving in low water levels when water temperatures are high. Generally, this freshwater amoeba lives in southern states and can cause a fatal brain infection.
